6 Word Story

February 12th, 2007

Via Caterina:

Ernest Hemingway was once prodded to compose a complete story in six words. His answer, personally felt to be his best prose ever, was “For sale: baby shoes, never used.” Some people say it was to settle a bar bet. Others say it was a personal challenge directed at other famous authors.

I came across this a number of months ago and have loved following the comments in the post (and, what a study in constraint). Here’s a few favourites:

Belongings scattered beside lipstick-stained sheet.
Stewart’s money, gone; her love, undaunted.
She said nothing could go wrong.
Shortest sex manual: In. Out. Repeat.
His flatulence was his worst enemy.
Will my son ever be ok?
His imprint had all but gone.
This Kool Aid tastes like cyanide.
