It’s been a great few years for Canadian music - The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, DFA 1979, … - which I love. My favourite has been a band called Stars and their album, Set Yourself On Fire, released in Canada in 2004, came across my radar at the start of 2006 and provided the soundtrack to many moments of the year.

Stars have a unique sound - layering strings over synthesized sounds - almost orchestral, but in a good way. The album is packed with great singles and you should check out the entire thing.

Their music has been described as “beautiful, eloquent indie pop”, characterized by lush instrumentation, nimble production and mixing, narrative lyrics, and soft but nuanced vocals.”

If you find me a recent album that towers higher with fodder so virtuosically managed and manipulated, I’ll give you 20 dollars and jump in a foreboding body of water from a height.”

My second favourite song of the year is One More Night (Your Ex-Lover Remains Dead).

Welcome to the conversation.

Hi, I'm Fraser and this is my personal site where I write about the things I'm interested in: start-up strategy, the web, music, and life.

My days are spent commercializing emerging technologies. Currently I'm helping to deliver the promise of semantic web to the consumer market at AdaptiveBlue. Previously I was at Trivaris, a Canadian seed stage investment firm.

I am a co-founder of Innovation Night, a community driven event supporting entrepreneurship in Canadian and US cities.

Here's what I'm doing right now:
