Mike Skinner is the most creative artist to emerge in the past 5 years.

The first album from The Streets, “Original Pirate Material”, fused garage, electronic and hip-hop beats with intelligently clever lyrics. Songs like “Let’s Push Things Forward” and “Has It Come to This?” remain some of my most played tracks.

Their second album, “A Grand Don’t Come For Free”, may be even better with an album long story woven throughout the songs.

In ‘06 The Streets released a new album, “The Hardest Way To Make A Decent Living”, and while the album didn’t match the previous two efforts (who cares - albums are dead) one song was my 10th favourite song of the year.

Give it a listen.

In fact, give it three:

“on the third listen, rather like an Alsatian being talked through a card trick, the penny dropped and the true magnificence of Skinner’s comeback was revealed”

Mike Skinner continues to push things forward and I eat up his honest, clever lyrics. I bet you will as well.

My days are spent commercializing emerging technologies. Currently I'm helping to deliver the promise of semantic web to the consumer market at AdaptiveBlue. Previously I was at Trivaris, a Canadian seed stage investment firm.
