It’s been a great few years for Canadian music – The Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, DFA 1979, … – which I love. My favourite has been a band called Stars and their album, Set Yourself On Fire, released in Canada in 2004, came across my radar at the start of 2006 and provided the soundtrack to many moments of the year.

Windsor to Kingston to Home

After a great (way too short) visit in Windsor with family I headed off to Kingston for the engagement party for my good friends Chris and Ang. It was great to have many old friends from school together in one place – it happens so irregularly now. What an incredibly fun night – congratulations Chris and Ang, wishing you all the best. Thanks for a fun night.

Ben Kweller was a name that appeared in my personal filters numerous times and yet I refused to check him out. Who knows why I didn’t. But it’s a good lesson in the benefit of using even the most primitive forms of filtration / recommendation systems because this guy rocks.

True story: After hearing a lot of positive noise about last.fm I decided to check it out. After scrobbling my listening habits for about a week I turned to their recommendation channel.

The very first song to come on. blew. me. away.

And it was my fourth favourite track of the year.
