I like music. I like technology. I like the way that media is changing. And I really like things that combine elements of the three.
I love the possibilities of Streampad.
A number of months ago I stumbled upon Streampad. Wanting to enjoy what it claimed to do, but frustrated that I couldn’t make it happen, I moved on after trying it out. But, like many young services that have a cool concept I revisited the site a few months afterward.
Same result.
Shortly after visiting I received an email from Dan Kantor, the man behind Streampad. Not only did he take a moment to share info on Streampad he won my heart over by blowing smoke up my butt wrt Disruptive Thoughts :D. A few back and forth emails and a cool friendship has started.
Dan has helped me overcome a few of the obstacles to getting Streampad up and running. It’s not a product at this point - it’s technology.
But woah.
The possibilities of a service like this are amazing.
1) Access your music library wherever. If you can connect to the internet then Streampad lets you listen to any song in your library. Ubiquitous connectivity isn’t here yet. But it’s coming. And think about that - access your music wherever you can connect… which will be everywhere. Woah.
2) Simply share music. A while ago I found a cool song by a band out of LA, Dark Side of the Cop. Unfortunately to share their music with you I had to give meticulous instructions. Now I just do this:
You can also check out my Streampad widget in my sidebar that has a number of cool songs that I’ve found and want to share with you. Which brings me to;
3) Music discovery. Dan hasn’t perfected this but the foundation is set to build an incredible music discovery engine. Like I said, Streampad is more technology than product/service but with some patience you can effectively use it to discover new music. Check out this great song I found through Streampad:
Dan, and Streampad, still have a tonne to learn from the Wonder Years, but I’m excited for where it can go. I plan on helping him as much as I can.
Now, enjoy this.

Eric Olson added these pithy words on Aug 09 06 at 6:34 pmVery cool stuff! There is also another cool company out there called Amie Street that is doing cool things with music. They are kind of like a stock market for music. I think it’s definitely up your alley. www.amie.st I have gotten to know their CTO over the past few weeks (he shot me a note after I mentioned them on the VentureWeek podcast - he’s a great guy) and they have some cool new features coming up. I am definitely excited to see what they come up with next.
