The world lost an amazing guy on July 29th - my friend Gary Childs passed away at the age of 50. His personality brought warmth wherever he went causing infectious smiles to spread throughout the room.

Gary had a bigger heart than anyone I’ve ever met, connecting with countless people around the world because he sincerely cared about them, regardless of whether they were a friend or stranger. His passion and love cannot be replaced. He was a lot of things to a lot of people but most importantly he was a friend to all. If you had the pleasure of meeting him then you know what I’m talking about.

I miss you already Gary. Thank you for everything.

*sigh* Fraser asked me a couple of months back to share some lessons that life has taught me. Of the seven I shared (http://disruptivethoughts.com/2006/05/26/wisdom-o…I purposely highlighted this as number one: “Life is short… sometimes much too short.” I could have done without a reminder so soon. I feel like Jodie Foster’s character in the movie “Contact” when she says “they should have sent a poet.” All the words at my disposal feel woefully inadequate to describe who Gary was, and how deeply he touched those around him. Although my memories are brighter from having known him these past 12 months, my world is noticeably darker now that his light has been extinguished. Good-bye Gary…

The World’s Loss

Welcome to the conversation.

Hi, I'm Fraser and this is my personal site where I write about the things I'm interested in: start-up strategy, the web, music, and life.

My days are spent commercializing emerging technologies. Currently I'm helping to deliver the promise of semantic web to the consumer market at AdaptiveBlue. Previously I was at Trivaris, a Canadian seed stage investment firm.

I am a co-founder of Innovation Night, a community driven event supporting entrepreneurship in Canadian and US cities.

Here's what I'm doing right now:
