1) I chuckled when I first heard ‘jumped the shark’. But am now tired of it. The term itself has, well, errm…. jumped the shark. [nice to see in that last one that the new editor of Wonkette is still on the ball]. We need a new term that means the same thing. Creative (funny) readers — I leave this up to you. I will try to post one suggestion for everyone that is left here — maybe we can stumble onto something.

2) Heard a great throw away line in a meeting the other day. “You need to fix what’s wrong before you scale. If you don’t, you just scale the problem with you”. At the time it was a perfect thing to say.

3) Daniel I know I haven’t given a lot of attention to topics you’re interested in… my problem is that my thoughts jump all over the place. Plant a seed through email and steer me back towards VC innovation. Hope you’re doing well.

4) Martin does a nice job discussing the good and the bad (read the comments) of Jet Blue’s viral campaign.

5) A good (but long) read on the background story for Facebook.

6) I like the business model behind Bag Borrow or Steal. A Technorati search for the company produces a lot of recent posts like this (40 days ago) and a tonne of older posts like this (279 days ago).

7) Liz lays out some good reasons for link love (”The blogging version of spring would have to be link love”). As usual, the best content is in the comments: “I don’t understand the folks who hoard their links. It’s not like there’s a link account that gives interest”.

Hi Fraser, Thanks for the link love and happy spring! I’ve been meaning to get back to see how the discussion has carried on. This is a fun excuse to do so. I love where your brain takes you. Liz Successful Blog

I’m working on a post that will touch on your comment. I haven’t forgoten about you :) [that’s another good reason for link love - giving someone a little nudge]

Hi Fraser, nice site. The opinion on Digg is divided as to whether the JetBlue thing was viral or not. Many commenters think it was a web developer gag gone wrong. I disagree with them: apparently the filename for the Flash was jb_fg_pbj.flv (jet blue _ family guy _ peanut butter jelly). I guess the filename wouldn’t have had to go through a signoff process, but to me it still smells viral. Haven’t heard about any official response from JetBlue yet (I even emailed them today to ask if it was a campaign or a developer gag). Thanks also from me for the link love!

Viral or not, they goofed by not leaving the video up. I went to check it out, and if it had still been up was going to pass it along to a few people through email. Or maybe they didn’t - now there are a lot more people discussing / researching the validity of it.

7 Quick Thoughts Round 2

Welcome to the conversation.

Hi, I'm Fraser and this is my personal site where I write about the things I'm interested in: start-up strategy, the web, music, and life.

My days are spent commercializing emerging technologies. Currently I'm helping to deliver the promise of semantic web to the consumer market at AdaptiveBlue. Previously I was at Trivaris, a Canadian seed stage investment firm.

I am a co-founder of Innovation Night, a community driven event supporting entrepreneurship in Canadian and US cities.

Here's what I'm doing right now:
